Bajaj Chetak Tops Electric Scooter Sales in Q4 FY25 with 29% Market Share
Bajaj Chetak records the highest electric scooter sales in India during Q4 FY 2024-25, supported by new model launches, expanded service network, and growing demand for electric two-wheelers across key markets including Maharashtra.
Bajaj Auto’s electric scooter, the Chetak, has emerged as the highest-selling model in India’s electric two-wheeler segment for the fourth quarter of FY 2024-25. According to company data, Chetak secured a 29% share of the market by both volume and value during the period.
Originally introduced in the 1970s, Bajaj Chetak had a strong presence in India’s scooter market for several decades. Reintroduced in an electric form, the scooter has gained significant popularity in recent years. Bajaj Auto attributes its recent sales performance to an extensive retail and service network of over 3,800 outlets and the launch of two new models—the 29 Series and the 35 Series—which together contributed over two lakh unit sales in 2024.
The 35 Series, positioned as the premium variant, features floorboard-integrated batteries, updated technology, and improved safety features. Bajaj Auto says that these additions have been well-received by customers, particularly those seeking practical and reliable electric mobility solutions.
Maharashtra, identified as India’s largest electric vehicle market, accounted for a major portion of Chetak’s success, where the scooter held a 50% market share during the quarter.
The company also noted that 40% of its domestic revenue now comes from vehicles running on cleaner fuels such as electricity and compressed natural gas (CNG). Bajaj Auto has been involved in clean fuel mobility since 2001, beginning with the launch of CNG-powered three-wheelers. Currently, it holds a 28% combined market share in the CNG and electric two- and three-wheeler segments.
In addition to the Chetak, Bajaj Auto’s clean mobility offerings include the recently launched Bajaj Freedom, claimed to be the world’s first CNG motorcycle, and the Bajaj Gogo, a line of electric commercial three-wheelers.
Eric Vas, President of the Urbanite Business Unit at Bajaj Auto, said the company’s recent growth in the electric segment is the result of product differentiation, an emphasis on customer experience, and a well-established service network.
Bajaj Auto Ltd. is among India’s leading two- and three-wheeler manufacturers, with a strong export footprint across over 100 countries. It is also the world’s largest exporter of three-wheelers and the first two-wheeler company globally to cross a market capitalization of INR one trillion. The company continues to focus on innovation, quality, and design as part of its long-term strategy.
