MPVs and SUVs drive Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s steady sales growth, with hybrid models gaining traction in the Indian market.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported sales of 28,414 units in February 2025, marking a 13% increase compared to the same month last year when the company sold 25,220 units. This marks a slight slowdown in growth compared to previous months.
January 2025 had seen sales of 29,371 units (up 19% year-on-year), while December had recorded sales of 29,529 units (a 29% increase).
In February, the domestic market accounted for 26,414 units while exports reached 2,000 units.
With this, for the first 11 months of the 2024-25 financial year, TKM has sold 306,105 units, representing a 30% growth over the 236,332 units sold during the same period in the previous financial year.
This continues the momentum from 2024, when the company achieved record sales of 326,329 units—a 40% jump over the previous year.
According to Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President of Sales-Service-Used Car Business at TKM, multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) continue to drive growth, contributing 68% to overall sales. Models such as the Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hilux, Fortuner, Legender, and Rumion have seen strong demand. These segments grew by 20% in 2024, benefiting from increasing consumer preference for vehicles offering sustainability, safety, and strong resale value.
TKM has reopened bookings for the Land Cruiser 300 and introduced a new GR-S grade under the GR Sport branding, featuring off-road-tuned suspension and enhanced performance features. The company also reports growing momentum for the recently launched All-New Camry.
Small car segment models like Taisor and Glanza contributed 28% to February sales, indicating a diversified product strategy. This aligns with Wadhwa's earlier statements about TKM's multi-pathway approach to offer varied mobility solutions tailored to different customer needs.
The company has also expanded its service offerings with the introduction of Toyota Mobility Solutions and Services India Ltd. (TMSS) in January 2025, marking its entry into the pre-owned car market. Initiatives like Toyota Used Car Outlets (TUCO) and the "T CARE" program have been implemented to enhance customer convenience and strengthen brand loyalty.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, near Bangalore, with a combined annual production capacity of 342,000 units. The first plant, established in 1997, produces models including the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender, while the second plant, operational since 2010, manufactures the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux.
The company is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, which holds 89% equity, and Kirloskar Systems Limited of India, which holds 11%.
Toyota entered the Indian market in the late 1990s and has since established itself as a significant player in the Indian automotive industry, particularly in the MPV and SUV segments. The company's focus on hybrid vehicles aligns with growing consumer interest in alternative fuel technologies in the Indian market.
