British luxury carmaker Aston Martin has introduced its latest sports coupe – DB12 – in India, with the car being priced at Rs 4.59 crore, ex-showroom, without customisation. The company will offer extensive personalisation options to customers, who can look up the Aston Martin online configurator to choose various elements to be customised in detail.
The Aston Martin DB12 is an ultra-luxury, high-performance sports tourer, which comes powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 680hp and 800Nm of peak torque. The power is delivered to the rear wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission, as well as an electronic rear differential. The DB12 claims a 0-100kph time of 3.5 seconds, and a top speed of 325km per hour.
The car will be sold through Aston Martin’s sole dealership – Select Cars - in New Delhi that will start taking bookings from potential customers, after this price announcement. “We have received great interest from potential customers for our latest introduction into the market, and we will now start taking orders,” Gautam Dutta, Brand Manager, Aston Martin, said.
The company estimates an approximate delivery time of 6-7 months, depending upon the supply chain and allocation of the cars from Aston Martin’s production facility in Gaydon, in the United Kingdom. “These are handcrafted cars and it does take time for them to be built and shipped from the UK. This is the average wait time for such personalised cars, despite the chip shortage, which fortunately, has not been a concern in our case,” he added.
While it has been able to comfortably meet customer requirements with its existing single-dealer format, the company is evaluating expanding its footprint. “We would be evaluating expanding our network into other cities, but it is at a nascent stage right now, and would take time. We have representatives across key markets in the country, and therefore, the demand is well taken care of,” Dutta said.
“The kind of customers that are there in this segment are connoisseurs who know the brand heritage well. For anything that is very specific to a personalisation requirement; it can be visualised through the online configurator,” he added.
The company, which also offers the DBX and DBX707 SUVs in its India portfolio, says it is witnessing a balanced demand for all body types. “As of now it is a balanced mix, with our sports cars and SUVs doing equal numbers. But, with the introduction of the DB12, we feel the sports coupes will overtake the SUV offerings,” Dutta said.
Aston Martin, which has globally partnered the US-based luxury EV start-up Lucid Motors, aims to unveil its first all-electric model in 2025.
