Ampere Launches Budget-Friendly Reo 80 Electric Scooter at ₹59,900
India's electric mobility sector expands as Greaves subsidiary introduces affordable low-speed scooter with safety features and 80km range, targeting urban commuters.
Ampere, the electric two-wheeler brand under Greaves Electric Mobility Limited (GEML), launched the Reo 80 electric scooter on Wednesday, priced at ₹59,900. The new model is positioned as an entry-level option that doesn't require a license or registration, operating at speeds below 25 kmph.
The Reo 80 comes equipped with a colored LCD display, LFP battery technology, front disc brake, and keyless start functionality. It offers a range of 80 kilometers on a single charge and is available in black, red, blue, and white color options with alloy wheels.
Deliveries will commence across India this month, according to company officials. K. Vijaya Kumar, Executive Director & CEO of Greaves Electric Mobility, stated that the launch aligns with the company's vision of making electric mobility more accessible throughout India.
The electric scooter market in India has been growing steadily as consumers seek affordable alternatives to conventional fuel-powered vehicles amid rising fuel prices and environmental concerns. Low-speed electric scooters like the Reo 80 have gained popularity particularly among first-time riders, students, and elderly users for short-distance urban commutes.
Greaves Electric Mobility reported significant growth in recent months, with sales reaching over 6,000 electric two-wheelers in March 2025, representing a 52% month-on-month increase according to Vahan data.
Greaves Cotton Limited, the parent company of GEML, has been diversifying from its traditional engineering roots into the electric mobility sector as part of its business transformation strategy. With a 165-year history, the company has evolved from manufacturing single-cylinder diesel engines to becoming a multi-product mobility solutions provider.
The electric two-wheeler segment in India has been witnessing increased competition with multiple players introducing affordable models to capture market share in the growing sector.
