Škoda Auto India’s Kylaq, the company’s first sub-4m SUV, received a 5-star safety rating in the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) tests. This achievement makes the Kylaq the first Škoda vehicle to undergo Bharat NCAP testing, following the Kushaq and Slavia, which also secured top safety ratings in Global NCAP tests.
The Kylaq, built on the MQB-AO-IN platform developed for Indian conditions, secured 30.88 points out of 32 for adult occupant protection and 45.00 out of 49 for child occupant protection. These results make it the highest-performing vehicle in the internal combustion engine (ICE) sub-4m compact SUV segment. The model demonstrated strong performance in frontal offset and side impact tests, with a stable occupant compartment and footwell structure.
The Kylaq incorporates over 25 safety features as standard across all variants. Key elements include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Hold Control, Roll Over Protection, and Multi-Collision Braking. The use of hot-stamped steel and a redesigned crash management system enhances cabin protection and crash resilience.
Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Škoda Auto India, noted that Škoda has prioritized crash testing globally since 2008 and has consistently delivered 5-star safety-rated vehicles in India. Janeba added that the Kylaq represents Škoda’s efforts to bring European engineering and safety standards to Indian roads.
The Kylaq follows in the footsteps of the Škoda Slavia, which achieved a 5-star safety rating in Global NCAP tests in April 2023. These milestones reflect the capabilities of the MQB-AO-IN platform, jointly developed by teams in India and the Czech Republic.
The Škoda Kylaq comes equipped with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Hold Control, Roll Over Protection, Multi-Collision Braking, and XDS+ as standard. It features a hot-stamped steel construction for enhanced crash resilience, redesigned crash management for better safety, and over 25 active and passive safety technologies.
