Volvo Trucks launches FM480 10x4 dump truck for mining applications

October 15, 2012: Volvo Trucks has launched its FM480 10x4 Dump Truck in India, built specifically for deep opencast mining. Built on the FM13-litre platform, the truck develops maximum power of 480hp and a torque of 2400 Nm. The company says the model’s higher power-to-weight ratio provides superior average speeds and thereby increased productivity, while the lower kerb weight offers superior fuel economy. The 10x4 dump truck comes with a 24 M3 rock body suitable for rough and tough mining applications.

Speaking at the launch, Philippe Divry, managing director, Volvo India and a VECV Board member said, “At a time where business is tough for everybody in the mining sector, Volvo once again innovates. This is the biggest truck ever in India; it looks like a truck, but produces like a machine. The Volvo FM480 10x4 Dump Truck is slated to be the next big game-changer in the mining industry.” According to Vinod Aggarwal, CEO of VE Commercial Vehicles (seen above with Philippe Divry), the higher-capacity rock body will give customers a product with best-in-class productivity.

The mining sector continues to be a big draw for players in the CV segment with Tata Motors and Daimler India Commercial Vehicles launching products targeted specifically at this sector.
