Volkswagen, which is an advocate for automotive and road safety worldwide, has announced an association with Mumbai Traffic Police Department to strengthen road safety in the city.
The alliance will begin through a social awareness programme dedicated towards educating and sensitising daily commuters on the issue of road safety, through hoardings installed across Mumbai.
Commenting on the initiative, Michael Mayer, director, Volkswagen Passengers Cars, said, “Safety as a concept is integral to our DNA at Volkswagen Passenger Cars. As advocates towards road safety in the city, this partnership with the Mumbai Traffic Police is indeed a momentous occasion for us. This association underlines our commitment towards creating a safer ecosystem for commuters in the city of Mumbai, and the social awareness programme is our first step in this direction.”
As part of this road safety programme, Volkswagen India and the Mumbai Traffic Police Department would install 1,500 hoardings strategically located at busy areas with high commuter footfalls.

We look forward to working with them towards fulfilling our mission to develop Mumbai as a model city as regards road safety, regulation and social awareness. Through this partnership, we seek to channel our communication in an innovative and effective manner to drive the critical safety related messages among commuters. We further seek to increase public understanding of risk factors and road law and promote changed behaviours, in collaboration with automobile expertise available with Volkswagen, and hence inculcate a culture of road safety.”
