US-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer C4V is looking at India as a potential manufacturing destination. According to a PTI report, Karnataka Medium and Large Industries Minister, Jagdish Shettar said that the company is willing to invest Rs 4,015 crore in the state.
The report states that an agreement was signed with representatives of C4V, which aims to set up a 5 Gigawatt hours (GWh) plant in the state that will create more than 4,000 jobs. The construction of the plant is expected to commence next year.
"We have pioneered the future of green with the recent changes in the latest Electronic System Design and Manufacturing Policy (ESDM) policy and the Electric Vehicle Policy in the state. The cell manufacturing sector will play an important role in reducing environmental pollution," said Shettar.
It maybe recollected that in April 2021, C4V had signed an MoU with Omega Seiki Mobility to bring its solid state batteries in India. C4V aimed to become the first lithium-ion cell maker with solid-state technology in India under the government’s ambitious Rs 18,000 crore PLI scheme.
C4V had earlier announced its plans to produce Solid State batteries with 400Wh/kg energy density in India to cater to the EV and renewable market.
