As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the UNO Minda Group inaugurated the fourth centre of Samarth Jyoti, the CSR wing of the Group at village Nawada Fatehpur in Manesar, earlier this month.
Samarth Jyoti is a vision of Suman Minda, president and managing director, Samarth Jyoti, to facilitate a transformative change in the disadvantaged sections of society. To provide an impetus to various skills and competency development among youth and women, Samarth Jyoti was set up in 2012 under the Shadi Lal Minda Charitable Trust (SLMCT).
Since its inception in 1958, the UNO MIinda-NK Minda Group has been supporting various social issues. According to the company, the late S L Minda, of Minda Industries was actively involved in running a number of charitable and social organizations under the aegis of the Moga Devi Minda Charitable Trust. The Group started Minda Bal Gram and Minda schools with an aim to provide food, shelter, medical facilities and education to underprivileged children.
Similarly, Samarth Jyoti plans to reach out to the disadvantaged sections of society by creating a conducive environment for an improved quality of life.
It has three existing centres at village Naharpur (Haryana); Pune (Maharashtra) and Pant Nagar (Uttrakhand). The training centres provide vocational training in computer education, cutting and tailoring to the youth in the region and also run a Balwadi. The various courses of Samarth Jyoti are accredited by NIOS (an autonomous organization in pursuance of the National Policy on education, under the Ministry of HRD, government of India.)
The Samarth Centre across different locations has trained more than 700 students in various vocational training courses. These students, once they pass out from the centre, are capable of bagging a job and some of them have even started their own small setups.
During the event, Nirmal Kumar Minda, CMD, UNO Minda, said: “A drive which was started by our Babuji years back to serve the weaker sections of society has been a great motivation behind Samarth Jyoti. We want more and more people to be associated with us through this initiative. Overall, this gives us a different level of satisfaction.” Suman Minda added, “I wish all the people associated with Samarth Jyoti to continue the great work as they have been doing from the past two years.”
