TVS Motor Co has launched the 2023 Model Year Apache RTR 160 V special edition model, which gets a new ‘Pearl White’ colour and joins the existing Matte Black Special Edition. The new bike, priced at Rs 130,090 (ex-showroom Delhi) bears a few cosmetic differences over the standard motorcycle and has a new ‘Bullpup’ exhaust.
The new Pearl White colour covers most of the bodywork but what adds a dash of contrast is the red on the central portion of the fuel tank, seat and the rear wheel.
This special edition motorcycle comes with a new, beefier-looking exhaust muffler that TVS calls the ‘Bullpup’ exhaust, seemingly inspired by the Bullpup machine gun. The company says that while the exhaust muffler looks bigger, it is 1kg lighter than the one on the standard bike. This helps improve the power-to-weight ratio and also enhances the exhaust note, adds TVS. Besides this, the bike also gets adjustable levers as standard.
The Apache RTR 160 4V special edition is powered by the same 159.7cc air- and oil-cooled, single-cylinder engine which develops maximum power of 17.55hp and14.73 Nm torque.
In the first seven months of the ongoing fiscal year, TVS Motor Co has sold a total of 1,566,184 two-wheelers, up 32% year on year (April-October 2021: 1,186,912 units). Of this, scooters comprise 783,599 scooters, up 62% YoY; motorcycle sales in the April-October 2022 period were 510,327 units, up 23% YoY.
At present, TVS has a 15.69% share of the overall Indian two-wheeler market – in scooters, it has a 24% share of the market; in motorcycles, it has an 8% market share. In the mopeds segment, where it is the sole players, TVS sold a total of 272,258 mopeds, down 5.43% YoY (April-October 2021: 287,915 units).
