Among many companies worldwide celebrating Women’s Day today is TE Connectivity India, the leading global supplier of electrical aggregates. The company, also known as TE India locally, is the Indian arm of Switzerland-based US$ 12 billion technology group which manufactures connectivity and sensor solutions for multiple industries.
While the company is celebrating Women’s Day across its global operations, particularly at its Shirwal-based plant, situated 50km away from Pune, all employees today took a pledge of practising equality at work among men and women to mark the occasion.
Besides pledging for equality at work, the company officials located at the site took time off from routine work for internal recreation activities, said a company official.
TE India’s Shirwal plant, which is spread across 25 acres, currently employs more than 700 women, and as per the company records, women employees involved on the shopfloor operations at the plant account for roughly 60 percent of the total workforce.
Autocar Professional, which had earlier visited the manufacturing plant, had learnt that the shopfloor staff is given adequate training via classroom and practical sessions, and the R&D engineers are given an opportunity to be trained at the company’s global R&D centres.
Commenting on the overall productivity milestones achieved by the company’s women employees in the critical shopfloor operations, Vishwanath S, director – transportation solutions, TE Connectivity India, says: “We produce wires, wire-to-wire connectors, sensors and aggregates which go where wire meets a device such as ECUs (engine control unit), instrument clusters, airbags and many other critical features. We make safety critical products where quality and performance cannot be compromised. We see that female employees particularly are highly consistent, diligent and accurate with their tasks. This is why they suit best to the nature of operations at our Shirwal plant. They are passionate about their jobs and constitute a dedicated workforce for our organisation.”
