Tata Motors is on a roll. Even as the Nexon, its first-ever compact SUV, has entered the Top 5 UVs chart for the first time, its popular Tiago hatchback has recorded a new milestone in its monthly sales.

The Tiago's retail sales have hit the highest ever for the model at 9,277 units in August 2018, with the top-end variant the XZ being the highest-selling variant.

The company says the northern region – Chandigarh Tricity, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab have contributed the highest volume of sales in August 2018. Extending the hatchback brand, Tata Motors recently launched the Tiago NRG, positioned as the ‘Urban tough roader’, an SUV- inspired vehicle.

With this launch, the company has entered a new segment and is aiming to tap new buyers. The Tiago NRG is priced at Rs 549,000 for the petrol version and Rs 631,000 for the diesel version (ex-showroom Delhi).

Commenting on the strong sales in August, S N Barman, vice-president, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “The Tiago brand continues to go from strength to strength and last month’s numbers are a testament to that. These volumes can be attributed to the pre-festive season demand for the car. Since the launch in April 2016, we have sold over 170,000 units and it is the only product in the hatchback segment which is still registering a strong growth despite being in its third year of production. We are confident that with the introduction of newer models such as the recently-launched Tiago NRG, the brand will continue to thrive in the foreseeable future.”

The Tiago is the first product from Tata Motors’ to showcase the ‘Impact’ design language and has set many company-firsts in the market. Tata Motors' says in line with the current market trends, the petrol variant contributed 80 percent of the overall sales for Tiago last month.
