Tata Motors, which has marginally expanded its passenger vehicle market share from 5.26 percent in April-June 2016 to 5.46 percent in April-June 2017 thanks to demand for new products like the Tiago, Tigor and Hexa, today announced launch plans for its new SUV – the Nexon.
First revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, the Nexon will be powered by the Revotron 1.2-litre petrol and Revotorq 1.5-litre diesel engines, both developing an identical 110ps. On the torque front, the 1.5 diesel develops maximum torque of 260 Nm at 1500-2750rpm and the 1.2 petrol outputs 170Nm at 2000-4000rpm. The Revotorq 1.5 diesel motor will make its debut in the Nexon which is slated for an India launch around September 2017.
Both the engines have been developed indigenously with inputs from global technology suppliers like AVL, Bosch, Mahle and Honeywell. While the three-cylinder, 1198cc Revotron petrol engine will be manufactured at Tata Motors’ Sanand plant, the four-cylinder, 1496cc Revotorq engine will be produced at the Ranjangaon facility.
According to Mayank Pareek, president, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, “The engine is the heart of the car and along with the SUV-like design and features, we wanted to offer punchy, responsive and refined engines. Both these engines have been designed and developed after extensive feedback from auto enthusiasts, expert drivers, followed by extensive testing across India, on different terrains. We are confident that this new family of engines will further help us build our brand and deliver a memorable experience on-road.”
Both engines will sport the first-in-segment multi-drive modes – Eco, City, and Sport. While the Eco mode has been designed to offer a relaxed drive experience with better fuel economy, the City mode enables for a perfect city drive ensuring optimum balance between power and torque. The Sport mode offers superior throttle response and is ideal for a spirited drive experience. The new engines are claimed to lightweight and low on friction, delivering high performance and fuel economy.
