Tata Motors has a winning link with India’s best-ever performance at the recently concluded 45th World Skills 2019 competition in Kazan, Russia where 19 skilled young Indian professionals won honours for the country. India also finished 13th out of 56 participating countries, making it India’s best performance yet at this global youth skills congress. In the last edition at Abu Dhabi in 2017, India won one silver, one bronze and nine medallions of excellence.
Tushar Phadatare, the Tata Motors candidate at the global contest, was awarded a Medallion of Excellence in the ‘Automobile Technology’ category, which saw 35 countries participate. Tushar finished with a score of 710 points and secured 15th position, placing India ahead of countries such as Belgium, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Singapore and Spain. Tata Motors was the sole Indian manufacturer to participate in the Automobile Technology category this year.
Commenting on his achievement, Subhajit Roy, Senior General Manager & Head - Customer Care (Domestic and International Business), Passenger Vehicle Business Unit (PVBU), Tata Motors, said, “This is a very proud moment for all of us at Tata Motors. This achievement is admirable and we are delighted that the efforts of both Tushar and the Tata Motors team have resulted in making this possible. Due to his exemplary performance, Tushar has helped improve India’s position in the World Skills Competition by one place, and our rank by three spots, as compared to the previous edition in 2017.”
World Skills International awards Medallions of Excellence to those candidates whose performance exceeds the global industry benchmark in a particular category. The results are derived from a World Skills Scale that uses a statistical formula and evaluates all participating countries in a particular skill.
According to Tata Motors, Tushar has completed his Full Term Apprentice (FTA) course at the Tata Motors’ plant in Pune. To be eligible for representing India at World Skills, Tushar qualified and secured the winning position in the district, state and regional level rounds of India Skills, followed by a gold medal in the final round of the competition.
In 2017, Tata Motors’ Aditya Pratap Rathore had won India’s first Medallion for Excellence at the World Skills Competition 2017 in the ‘Automobile Technology Skills’ category.
