Tiago EV gets four trims; bookings commence on October 1 and deliveries to begin in January 2023

Tata Motors today launched its third electric vehicle – the Tiago EV – which is priced from Rs 849,000 (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable four-wheeler EV in India. The Tiago EV is the carmaker's first electric hatchback after the Tigor EV and the Nexon EV.
The Tiago EV costs Rs 310,000 more than the internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered Tiago. Here is a break-up of the introductory prices of the Tiago EV (below). Tata Motors is offering only the first 10,000 units at these prices, of which 2,000 units are reserved for existing Nexon EV and Tigor EV owners. Bookings will open on October 10, 2022 with deliveries planned from January 2023.
The Tiago EV sits below the Tigor EV in the brand's line-up and will be available in four trims – XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech.
Speaking at the launch, Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility said, “Having pioneered the EV market in India, we have successfully led its growth and penetration over the last couple of years. With the launch of the Tiago.ev, India’s first electric hatchback, the nation can take a giant leap forward in the quest for safe, clean and green mobility. It is an ideal fun hatch which offers premium, safety and technology features, eco-friendly footprint, spirited performance, all made even more desirable with the added advantage of a low cost of ownership."
He added, "It will be the first in its segment to offer best-in-class connected features as standard across all trims, that are usually offered in more premium cars. It comes with two options of battery packs and four different charging solutions, enabling customers to choose the combination that best serves their mobility needs. With its thrilling, yet easy to drive experience amidst a luxurious ambience, the Tiago EV is likely to become the favourite car of every family member.
Tiago EV offered in combinations of IP67-rated battery packs and charging options including a 24kWh battery pack, delivering MIDC range of 315km for longer daily driving needs and a 19.2kWh pack for short and frequent trips, with 250km range.
Expanding the EV sales network to over 165 cities
With the launch of the Tiago EV, Tata Motors is now setting out to expand its EV sales network. Chandra said: “With an aim to make our EVs more accessible, with this launch, we are entering 80 new cities, expanding our network to more than 165 cities. We are confident that this move will help more and more customers embrace EVs as their preferred mode for personal mobility."
"The Tata Tiago EV is a disruptive product and will open a new customer base for us. Seven cities including Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Chennai are key EV buyer zones. The Tiago EV opens a market opportunity in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities."
The Tiago EV is powered by Tata’s Ziptron high-voltage architecture that uses a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. Tata claims the Tiago EV can achieve a 0 to 60kph time of 5.7 seconds.
Its 24kWh lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Additionally, it also has a 19.2kWh battery that has an estimated MIDC range of 250km. The Tiago EV is also capable of fast charging and can be topped up from 10 to 80 percent in just 57 minutes using a DC fast charger. Tata is offering an 8year/ 1,60,000km warranty on the battery and motor.
The Tiago EV has an MIDC-rated range of 315km, which is 9km more than the Tigor EV’s range of 306km (ARAI certified).
In terms of design, the Tiago EV is similar to the ICE-powered Tiago, which received a facelift in 2020. However, to differentiate it as an EV, it sports electric blue accents around the body and blue highlights inside the headlamps.
Interior and features
The cabin is nearly identical to the ICE Tiago. However, Tata has given the Tiago EV blue accents on the interior, like the Tigor EV, to differentiate it from the petrol-powered version. The gear lever has also been replaced with a rotary dial for the drive mode selector and features a Sports mode.
In terms of equipment, the Tiago EV gets automatic climate control, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, push button start/stop, and cruise control. For safety, the electric hatchback gets ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera and seat belt reminder. It also gets multi-mode regen braking that was first introduced with the Nexon EV Max.
The Tiago EV is Tata's first electric hatchback and the most affordable four-wheeler EV on sale in India. It is priced lower than the Tata Tigor EV and currently has no direct rivals.
