Tata Motors, along with its distributor, Diesel & Motors Engineering (DIMO), have launched the company’s popular compact SUV, the Tata Nexon in Sri Lanka. The Nexon in Sri Lanka will be available for sale in six variants (XE, XM, XT, XZ, XZ+, XZA+) and six colours at 15 outlets across Colombo. The company has also introduced the high-selling SUV with AMT. The Nexon has been launched at a price of Rs 1.99 million for petrol and Rs 4.6 million for diesel Permit Holder Prices) for the XZA+ (Top Variant).
Speaking at the launch, Mayank Pareek, president, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, “Combining contemporary design with best-in-class technology and advance features, the Tata Nexon is meant for those who like to make a unique style statement. Since its launch in India, the Tata Nexon has set new benchmarks in the compact SUV segment and is one of the most loved products from our PV portfolio. We are elated to introduce the manual and the AMT variants in Sri Lanka today. With the introduction of this entire range, we aim to tap a larger market and increase our market share in not only the compact SUV segment but also the AMT segment.”
Ranjith Pandithage, chairman and managing director, DIMO, said, “This is our first big step into the compact SUV segment with Tata Motors. Continuing our longstanding relationship with the company, we are confident to launch this product in our country and look forward to introduce many more such products.”
Earlier this month, Tata Motors’ Ranjangaon plant in Pune rolled out the landmark 50,000th Nexon, exactly 330 days since the SUV's rollout on September 21, 2017. For Tata Motors, which is aggressively driving its Turnaround 2.0 growth strategy, the Nexon has proved to be the weapon to take on the competition and give a new charge to its UV and PV sales in India.
In FY2018, Tata Motors was one of the quickest growing OEMs in the UV segment, selling a total of 51,891 units (+178.20%) in FY2018 (FY2017: 18,652 units). Of this, the snazzy Nexon comprised 27,747 units, which accounted for 53.47 percent of Tata Motors' total UV sales in the past fiscal.
Now, armed with a strong 4-star crash test rating following the recent Global NCAP tests, which makes it one of the safer and yet affordable cars in India, expect Nexon sales to see some more acceleration, both in India and abroad.
