Following the launch of the Nexon facelift in diesel and petrol versions today, Tata Motors has also launched the Nexon.ev in India, with introductory prices starting from Rs 14.74 lakh for the entry-level MR variant, and going up to Rs 19.94 lakh for the top-spec LR variant (ex-showroom, India).
This is not just an average facelift with cosmetic and feature upgrades, but Tata Motors has even given the Nexon EV mechanical updates, thereby now offering more range. With this update, the Nexon EV has also been renamed to Nexon.ev as per the brand’s new EV nomenclature.
Just like the ICE Nexon, updates to the Nexon.ev are inspired by the Curvv concept, which, Tata Motors claims, is more aerodynamic than before. Even the new LED lighting elements have been made more energy efficient, resulting in improved range.
As before, the EV does have a close resemblance with the ICE Nexon, but there are a few key differences. The upper portion of the nose has a single-tone, body-coloured finish, there’s a full-width LED Daytime Running Lamp signature that even shows the charging status, and the lower portion of the bumper gets sealed-off metallic strakes as opposed to the mesh-like design on ICE Nexon.
The EV continues with a split headlamp design with trapezoidal housings for the main cluster, full-width connected LED tail-lamps that split into a Y-shape, and a pronounced roof-mounted spoiler. In profile, there aren’t any major changes over the pre-facelift model, but the 16-inch alloys are new, and are identical on both ICE and EV versions. Lastly, there’s an ‘.ev’ badge on the tailgate.
TATA NEXON.EV DESIGN AND FEATURES
The dashboard design on the Nexon.ev is shared with the facelifted ICE Nexon. It gets an all-new layered design that’s finished in multiple textures and materials – there’s a carbon-fibre-like trim, soft-touch materials, and several piano black surfaces. The EV now comes with a class-leading 12.3-inch touchscreen with an all-new user interface on the top-spec variant, the new two-spoke illuminated steering wheel, a customisable 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with navigation display, and touch-based HVAC controls with toggle switches.
Other features on the top-spec Nexon.ev facelift include a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, air purifier, fast charging type-C ports, single-pane sunroof, JBL-branded sound system, voice commands, OTA updates as well as a new Arcade.ev app suite.
In terms of safety features, it gets six airbags, ABS and ESC as standard, front parking sensors, blind view monitor, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX anchors, hill descent and ascent control, all-wheel disc brakes, panic brake alert as well as emergency and breakdown call assist.
POWERTRAIN, BATTERY AND RANGE
The Nexon.ev is available in two variants – MR and LR. The MR gets a 30kWh battery, while the LR gets a larger 40.5kWh battery. But while battery sizes have remained the same, the range has actually gone up. The MR has an ARAI-claimed range of 325km, while the LR has a range of 465km, both of which are 12km more than before.
Both versions now get a 7.2kW AC charger as standard with which the batteries can be topped up from 10 to 100 percent in 4.3 hours for the MR, and 6 hours for the LR. The Nexon.ev now even gets V2V (vehicle to vehicle) and V2L (vehicle to load) charging capabilities, which means you can charge other electrical appliances or even another EV with the Nexon.ev.
As for outputs, the MR produces 129hp and 215Nm of torque, while the LR produces 145hp and 215Nm. Interestingly, while power outputs have remained the same, torque on the MR variant has reduced by 30Nm, while on the LR variant, it's down by 38Nm. Tata claims a 0-100kph sprint of 8.9 seconds for the LR, and a top speed of 150kph.
There are three drive modes on offer – Eco, City and Sport – and it also gets four-level brake regeneration that can be controlled through the paddle shifters.
TATA NEXON EV FACELIFT VARIANTS & RIVALS
The MR and LR variants are further split into three core trims – Creative, Fearless and the top-spec Empowered. Each trim gets its own unique elements such as exterior colours and interior upholstery. These trims also get optional packages denoted by a ‘+’ suffix. The MR variant is available with all three trims, while the LR is available with the Fearless and Empowered trims.
The Nexon.ev facelift has just one direct rival in this segment, and that’s the Mahindra XUV400 EV which is priced between Rs 15.99 lakh - Rs 19.39 lakh, ex-showroom, India.
