Tata Motors today rolled out its 1,000th Nexon EV from its plant in Pune, 204 days after the eco-friendly SUV was officially launched. The company had launched the electric variant of the Nexon SUV on January 28 this year, priced at Rs 13.99 lakh. Tata Motors claims the Tata Nexon EV is the best seller in its segment, helping the company achieve a market share of 62% in EVs in Q1 FY2021.
Commenting on the production milestone, Shailesh Chandra, President – Passenger Vehicle Business, Tata Motors said, “Acceptance of EVs is accelerating fast, and we are seeing growing interest in it from all parts of the country. The rollout of the 1,000th Nexon EV in a short tim- span, despite the challenges of Covid-19, reflects the rising interest of personal segment buyers in EVs. Tata Motors will continue to innovate and develop comprehensive sustainable mobility solutions meeting global standards. EVs are the future and as the industry leader, we are committed to make them desirable and a mainstream choice for the customers.”
Tata Motors, on its part, is exploring various initiatives to make EV owning easier. The company has teamed up with Orix India to provide subscription plans for the Nexon EV; an alternative for those opposed to the idea of buying a car outright. Orix India has introduced subscription plans for the Tata Nexon EV in five cities – Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad. There are three subscription tenures to choose from – 18 months, 2 years and 3 years – and the fixed rental fee varies depending on the tenure chosen.
The Tata Nexon EV has a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers an electric motor that develops 129hp and 245 Nm of torque. Using a DC fast charger (compatible with CCS2) can help quick-charge the Nexon EV from 0-80 percent in just one hour. However, using a standard 15A AC charger, it will take between 8-9 hours to reach a full charge. The ARAI-certified range for the Nexon EV stands at 312km.
Considering the base Tata Nexon XM variant’s price of Rs 13.99 lakh, the features list isn’t scanty – with LED DRLs, automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, and power windows are standard. Although, it does miss out on premium kit like 16-inch alloy wheels, dual-tone colour options, power adjustable and folding mirrors, a 7.0-inch colour MID and an Android Auto and Apple CarPlay-compatible 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, all of which come with the XZ+. The top-spec Nexon EV XZ+ LUX adds a sunroof, auto headlights and wipers, a height-adjustable driver’s seat and an eight-speaker Harman-sourced speaker system.
Along with the Nexon EV, Tata Motors also has the Tigor electric sedan which has a range of 140km and 213km.
To accelerate the adoption of EVs in India, Tata Motors also introduced a holistic e-mobility ecosystem ‘Tata uniEVerse’ to closely leverage the strengths and experience of other Tata Group companies to create a viable EV environment. With Tata uniEVerse, consumers get access to a suite of e-mobility offerings including charging solutions, innovative retail experiences and easy financing options.
