The growing focus on vehicular safety in the Indian automotive industry as well as growing awareness among consumers about buying vehicles with a higher level of safety equipment, even as new vehicle safety mandates are set to kick in later this year, has found resonance at SIAT 2019, which is to be held later this month in Pune (January 16-18, 2019).
The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), the apex automotive organisation of the country, today announced its 16th edition of Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT). The biennial, SIAT, hosted in association with SAE International, SAE INDIA and NATRiP, is to be held at a much larger venue at Oxford Golf Resort – Hill Top, Bavdhan, Pune.
Widely acclaimed by the global automotive fraternity, SIAT is a benchmark biennial international event, organised by ARAI since 1985. Serving as a forum for knowledge sharing for the automotive industry, SIAT sees participation of eminent worldwide experts representing several key areas of the automotive value chain.
Talking at a press conference in Bangalore today, Rashmi Urdhwareshe, director, ARAI, said, “The theme of SIAT 2019 is ‘Empowering Mobility – Safe & Intelligent Way’. Vehicle safety has long been an arena for breeding technological improvement and major advances are made by global organisations in passive safety to active safety to connected mobility, in both concept and technology. We hope to facilitate a knowledge-sharing platform for Indian manufacturers to inculcate such technology at the concept stage itself."
"SIAT 2019 will focus on recent advances in various automotive areas, such as Safety, Emissions, Engines, Noise, Electric Mobility, Electronics, Intelligent Transportation, Vehicle Dynamics, Materials, Alternate Fuels and Simulation & Modelling. It will also bring to fore innovative ideas and solutions in automotive technologies to meet future challenges," Rashmi Urdhwareshe added.
120 research presentations, future mobility solutions, 130-company expo
Expect the four-day symposium to be a tech tour de force. A A Badusha, senior deputy director, ARAI and convener, SIAT 2019 said that, apart from technical sessions with about 120 research presentations on the above-mentioned topics, there will be two plenary sessions wherein experts in the respective fields will speak on trending topics like safety, future mobility solutions, emissions and emissions. The conference will witness renowned automotive experts from across the globe sharing their views through 42 keynote addresses.
The highlight of the conference will be a panel discussion on 'Collaborative Research for Futuristic Mobility Solutions' wherein industry experts, CTOs, Researchers and Scientists will discuss and debate issues and express their views on this very relevant topic.
Concurrently, SIAT 2019 will host an exposition wherein several leading national and international exhibitors will showcase their latest and futuristic technologies in areas such as BS VI, vehicle safety / crash, electric mobility, vehicle telematics, NVH, simulation and modelling. ARAI to showcase lightweight bus, plenty of indigenous tech
One of the attractions of SIAT 2019 will be an ARAI-designed lightweight bus along with vehicles with indigenously developed advanced technologies for autonomous vehicles, battery technology and intelligent vehicles.
ARAI assists the government of India in formulation of automotive industry standards and harmonisation of regulations. ARAI is also assisting the government in establishing vehicle inspection and certification centres all across the country.
ARAI offers R&D services in the areas of engine development, alternate fuels, NVH, computer aided engineering, structural dynamics, automotive electronics and materials. It also offers comprehensive certification and homologation services for all types of automotive vehicles, systems and components. ARAI also assist the vehicle manufacturers for export homologation activities. At present, ARAI carries out about 70 percent of the certification of vehicles in the country.
