Suzuki has just updated its big bike portfolio for India with a pair of GSX sportsbikes.

In-line with our report a month ago (April 20), Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIL), a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan has now officially launched the two expected 1000cc GSX-S superbikes in the local market.
The two superbikes – GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F – will be imported as completely built units (CBUs), and are launched in India simultaneously with their global launch.
These one-litre siblings are powered by the GSX-R1000-derived long stroke, in-line four-cylinder 999cc powerplant, which is mated with six-speed transmission in both the models. While the S1000 is positioned as a naked-street bike, the S1000F is its fully-faired sibling.
Available in two colour combinations of red and blue (with black), Suzuki has launched the GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000F for Rs 12,25,000 and Rs 12,70,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi) respectively.
“The GSX-S1000 is a naked roadster with an aggressive look, while the GSX-S1000F is its fully faired sibling. Their super-sport genes deliver smooth, controlled handling and dynamic acceleration. We are launching these models globally and in India at the same time so that Indian motorcycle enthusiasts can lay their hands on the latest, top-of-the-line Suzuki products. These motorcycles cater to the rider who wants a performance street motorcycle. These sport roadsters have expanded our already diverse big motorcycle line-up” said Atul Gupta, executive vice-president, SMIL.
Interestingly, with the addition of these two new superbikes in Suzuki’s portfolio, which currently includes eight models, will now have a total of 10 big bikes on offer. This makes the company’s superbike portfolio bigger than its scooter and commuter bikes portfolios put together.
Besides the latest GSX-S siblings, the company’s eight-model superbike portfolio includes – the 4-cylinder, 999cc GSX-R1000 ABS; twin-cylinder, 1037cc V-Strom 1000ABS; 4-cylinder, 1340cc Hayabusa and Hayabusa Z variants; 4-cylinder, 1255cc Bandit 1250SA; twin-cylinder, 1783cc Intruder M1800R along with its BOSS edition and the twin-cylinder, 805cc Intruder M800.
The models in the SMIL portfolio currently come in an ex-showroom (Delhi) price range of Rs 10,05,000 (for the Intruder M800) to Rs 16,45,000 (for the Intruder M1800R BOSS variant).
On the other hand, while its scooter portfolio has four models on offer (110cc Lets and 124cc Access, Access special edition and Swish), its motorcycle offerings include 155cc Gixxer and Gixxer SF, 150cc GS150R, 124cc Slingshot and 112cc Hayate models.
The big bike segment, this year, has seen multiple launches so far including Indian Motorcycle’s Roadmaster and Chief Dark Horse; Kawasaki’s Ninja H2; and Yamaha’s YZF-R1M. Recently Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) had announced that they will be beginning the assembly of their four-cylinder, 650cc CBR650F sportsbike soon. While Ducati has setup its official Indian subsidiary earlier this year, Triumph Motorcycles too had expanded its adventure-tourer portfolio by adding two fresh 800cc variants under its popular Tiger series.
