Stanadyne, a global leader in the design and manufacture of diesel and petrol fuel systems, today launched its next-generation diesel fuel injection system for the Indian market and targeted at off-road applications. The new product has been fully developed by Stanadyne’s engineering team in India with 90 percent localisation
The company will produce the new injection system at its Chennai plant. Current annual capacity is 90,000 pumps and Stanadyne aims to increase this to 250,000 units in the next two years with an investment of Rs 100 crore. Exports account for 40-45 percent of its total volume to Europe, US and South America.
Stanadyne, which has been in India since 2001 with its partner Amalgamation Group, manufactures mechanical pumps, fuel injectors, integrated fuel systems and mono block pumps for the off-road segment. It recorded a turnover of Rs 170 crore in FY2014-15 and aims to double it by 2017 primarily through new markets, new products and new customers.
In India, the company’s key clientele include Mahindra & Mahindra, Greaves, Cooper Corporation, Ashok Leyland, John Deere, TAFE, Kirloskar Engines, JCB and Cummins India.
The new diesel fuel injection system is targeted at off-road applications including tractors, gensets and industrial applications for below-50hp engines. The company says the new systems offer a 50 percent reduction in particulate emission, 8 percent more fuel efficiency that could translate into Rs 15,000 saving annually, lower cost of ownership and operation, improved engine utility and function and reduced engine noise.
According to Dr John Pinson, president and CTO, Stanadyne (pictured above with the new technology fuel injection system), “India is an important market for Stanadyne and we have developed this innovative fuel injection system that will enable manufacturers to achieve breakthrough efficiency, increased performance and lower emissions."
Stanadyne, which has a strong presence in the global off-road fuel injection systems market, has over the past few years diversified into the on-road applications in the US and China. In India, it operates in the off-road segment but would like to enter the on-road segment with a new product in the next couple of years.
Speaking to Autocar Professional, Dr Pinson said, “Four years ago, we were exclusively making an off-road product globally and decided to diversify our offering to on-road. In India, we started with the off-road segment as we were strong in this sector. However, now we intend to grow that from off-road to on-road applications.”
