Ssangyong Motor sells 11,610 units in August, up 27 percent

September 2, 2013: The Mahindra Group-owned Ssangyong has announced that it has sold a total of 11,610 units in August 2013. This comprises 5,158 units in the domestic market and 6,452 units in exports. These numbers are an increase of 27.1 percent over the year-earlier period. Increased sales of the Korando family brand have contributed to the growth.

Sales in August also increased by 27.1 percent from a year earlier and cumulative sales rose by 23.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

In the domestic market, where the company says it has recorded the highest growth among the domestic automakers in the first half of this year, Ssangyong sold over 5,000 units for five consecutive months backed by the newly launched New Korando C, which has posted an increase of 39.2 percent year-on-year. The vehicle has received a very good response, receiving over 4,000 bookings in 20 days since its launch. Its sales in August rose to 1,799 units, the highest ever monthly sales in 2013, and Ssangyong expects a good outlook for future sales.

The company’s exports grew by 18.8 percent compared to August 2012, thanks to increased sales in the Russian market. Ssangyong now plans to introduce the New Korando C in overseas market like China and Europe, sequentially.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “The number of bookings for the Korando family brand including the New Korando C has continued to increase based on good responses from the market.”
