Italian luxury sports car manufacturer Automobili Lamborghini showcased its Huracan EVO Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) in Chennai today, after its global launch in January 2020. Powered by a V10 engine, the Huracan delivers 610 hp (449 kW) of power at 8,000rpm and 560 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm.
Speaking at the unveiling of the vehicle, Sharad Agarwal, Head, Lamborghini India said, “South India is an important market for us. Some years ago, this market was contributing one-third of our sales which is 33 percent approximately. Today, the Southern market is contributing to more than 50 percent. The ratio is even among the states while Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are at par. Tamil Nadu is almost catching up and Kerala is not far behind. This is why the Southern part (of the country) is becoming more important for us."
Last year, the company had around 20 percent market share of the super luxury car market in India and sold about 52 cars."The growth for us during the downturn is around 15 percent. This means we have improved our market share in the super luxury segment during last year," said Agarwal.
With the new Huracan EVO RWD, Lamborghini India’s head expects a better response. Rewind to rear-wheel drive means a return to the origins of mechanical purity, the true essence of a Lamborghini, and there are customers waiting for this in India, according to Agarwal.
"Taking the Huracan legacy forward, the new vehicle dynamics have been developed and refined to produce a car whose performance relies on the harmony between man and machine," he added.
Weighing 1,389kg, the lightweight Lambo has a top speed of 325kph. It accelerates from 0 to 100kph in a scant 3.3 seconds. The RWD is another nostalgic touch by the Italian car manufacturer. Also, the new Performance Traction Control System (P-TCS) is calibrated specifically for the rear-wheel drive Huracan, delivering torque even during the phase where the car is realigning following drifting or side-slipping.
