Shell India has launched Rimula R5 LE 10W40 and R5 LE 10W30 synthetic engine oils designed for heavy duty trucks in India. The company says the two new engine oils, which offer enhanced engine protection and oxidation control, have been developed with CK4 technology, in accordance with the latest BS-VI emission norms.

Shell claims Rimula R5 is India’s first range of CK4 engine oil that is compatible with both existing vehicles and future-ready BS-VI vehicles. The company says that this new range of high-performance engine oils can contribute significantly to the reduction of air pollution.

The lubricant company says energy-efficient transportation is a key tool in battling deteriorating air quality in India. Through a slew of policy measures, such as the implementation of emission reduction norms, the government is effectively working towards tackling air-pollution.  In addition, there is an increasing pressure on OEMs to adapt to the latest emission norms and gear up to embrace the transition to BS-VI standards.

Mansi Tripathy, country head, Shell Lubricants, India, said, “We are honoured to be partners in the government’s commitment towards adopting the Bharat Stage VI emission norms, which is a positive step towards reducing environmental emissions, an example of India’s ability to adapt to the newest technologies. We are proud to have played a leading role in the development of the new API CK-4 standards for heavy-duty diesel engine oils. Rimula R5 designed to provide superior performance and enhance energy efficiency.”

Praveen Nagpal, chief technology officer, Shell India, said: “Shell Lubricants was first to announce a new portfolio of heavy-duty diesel engine oils to meet the new API CK-4 standard in North America reformulating our Shell Rimula R4 L, and Shell Rimula R5 LE Synthetic Blend. Now, the synthetic Shell Rimula R5 joins the CK-4 compliant range. Together with OEMs and customers, Shell Lubricants has conducted more than 64 million kilometres (40 million miles) of real-world testing – akin to driving over 1,500 times around the world. Such rigorous testing served to demonstrate the performance of the next-generation heavy-duty diesel engine oils that meet the CK-4 specification without compromising oil life or wear protection.”

The Shell Rimula R5 will be available in 19 focus cites across 12 states: Delhi, Chennai, Namakkal, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Indore, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jalandhar, Ambala, Srinagar, East Singhbum, Ranchi, Raipur and Vadodra. The engine oils will be available in 15-litre packs only.
