Scania to display top-of-the line V8 R 500 6X4 truck at Delhi Expo

Scania to display top-of-the line V8 R 500 6X4 truck at Delhi Expo

MUMBAI, 30 Januray 2014: Scania India will be participating at the Auto Expo 2014 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Delhi, NCR, India making a few announcements and displaying some products.

A highlight of the Scania pavilion will be a heavy haulage truck with a top-of-the-line V8 engine, Scania R 500 6x4, being exhibited for the first time in India. On the service front, there will be the Scania Fleet Management system for monitoring and coaching vehicles and drivers performance, for optimal fleet uptime and traffic safety. Product-wise, Scania will have the following:

· Scania R 500 6x4 which features the first ever V8 engine on the Indian roads, offering a high, low-speed torque rating, essential for super over-dimensional cargo (ODC) transport.

· Scania P 410 8x4, equipped with Scania Opticruise, a fully automated gear-changing system that promises better fuel efficiency and ease of driving. It is fitted with a completely new 20 cum U-shaped rock body developed by SSAB. The complete tipper is significantly lower in weight than current market offerings.

· Scania G 410 6x2 is the most recent addition to Scania’s on road range in India, and with superior uptime, fuel economy and driver comfort. It will also have Opticruise, which is an automated gear changing system for manual gearboxes.

· Scania Metrolink, the 49-seater luxury inter-city coach with a 13-litre 360 hp Euro 3 engine, an 8-speed gearbox with Scania Opticruise.

Six years after entering India through a marketing joint venture with Larsen & Toubro, Scania hopes to play a larger role in the Indian CV segment. It has invested Rs 250 crore in a plant at Narsapur in Karnataka, its first manufacturing plant in Asia.

Like all other overseas players, Scania will localise the products for the Indian market. It has currently been able to achieve a localisation of 18 percent for trucks which it intends to increase this to 27 percent. As far as bus bodies go, the company will have them 100 percent localised once production begins later this year at its bus plant.
