Sandhar Technologies, a leading manufacturer and supplier of locking systems, sheet metal components, vision systems, door handles, latches and hinges and other component assemblies in India, had for the first time showcased some innovative products for two- and four-wheeler OEMs at the Auto Expo 2016 in New Delhi earlier this month.
Some of them, which were developed by the Sandhar Centre for Innovation and Development (SCID), were the four-in-one lock for two-wheelers, Bluetooth-based security system, carbon canister for two-wheelers, auto dimming mirrors and others.
Interestingly, security systems for two-wheelers and passenger cars are forecast to be among the speedy growth product categories in the near future. Sandhar’s innovative four-in-one lock for two- wheelers integrates the steering lock-cum-ignition switch with fuel tank cap and seat latch actuator to increase customer convenience and eliminate the use of separate locking systems.
The company has also developed a Bluetooth-based security system for two-wheelers, which works as an anti-theft device with remote vehicle locking / unlocking facility. According to the company, this solution comes with an auto immobilisation option.
Catering to evaporative emission requirements, the company also showcased its innovative carbon canister for two-wheelers. This canister, meant for motorcycles and scooters, reduces the evaporative emissions of hydrocarbon into the atmosphere and eliminates the need for a separate purge control valve.
It also displayed its auto dimming mirror, which could make night driving safer and convenient. According to company officials, this technology eliminates the need to manually adjust the prismatic mirror, thanks to the inbuilt sensor that automatically adjusts the mirror to eliminate the glare from headlights of other vehicles.
According to the company website, the Sandhar Centre for Innovation and Development is a new initiative to promote R&D, which has filed patent applications for the anti-theft motorcycle stand lock, dimming mirror, rollover valve for two-wheelers, and a replacement rollover valve fitted with fuel filler cap for motorcycles.
Besides these, the company also had displayed high precision press parts and insert moulded contact plates. These precision parts are manufactured by Sandhar Han Sung Technologies, which is a joint venture between Sandhar Technologies and Han Sung Imp Co, Korea at its Gurgaon plant.
The joint venture manufactures press parts for application in relays, motors and tools, injection moulded parts for application in sensors, connectors, switches, vehicle relays, lamps, windshield wipers and switches.
Also showcased were all-new two-wheeler fuel senders, which are manufactured by Sandhar Technologies under its technical collaboration with Lyssen Enterprises Co of Taiwan. The Lyssen division is located at Dhumaspur, Gurgaon where fuel senders are produced. The company has recently commenced production under its fuel sender division as a part of its foray into electronic components.
The Sandhar Micro ISO relays, on the other hand, are manufactured under a technical collaboration with Jinyoung Electro Mechanics Co of South Korea at its fully automatic facility in Gurgaon.
According to company officials, all relay parameters are tested on an automatic line without any manual intervention. The relays have high electrical conductivity, high reliability cycles (i.e. 10 lakh cycles of electrical life and 100 lakh cycles of mechanical life), thanks to the high quality of contact materials used in its manufacturing. Sandhar Technologies also has an in-house testing facility to check the relays.
