Continuing to grow rapidly in terms of month-on-month sales, Royal Enfield has now registered its highest-ever monthly sales in January 2016.
The Chennai-based motorcycle manufacturer recorded total domestic sales of 47,140 units in January 2016, marking a substantial jump of 67.42 percent on the 28,157 units sold in January 2015. The company had registered its previous best in October 2015, a festive month last year, when it had sold 44,138 units in the domestic territories.
A closer look at Royal Enfield’s calendar year 2015 sales highlights that it breached the 40,000 unit sales mark for the first time in August 2015, and since then it has continued to score over the 40k mark every subsequent month.
January 2016 marks the sixth month in a row that Royal Enfield has notched sales of more than 40,000 units per month. Collating all monthly sales data as reported by the company for the ongoing financial year, we glean that it has averaged monthly sales of 40,116 units during April 2015-January 2016.
In order to keep the sales momentum alive, the company has also introduced nine new colour options on its existing models. An official communication from the company says, “Royal Enfield introduces nine new colours for its existing product line-up that includes four new colours for its retro-street model Classic, three colours for the legendary Bullet and one colour each for its highway cruiser Thunderbird and the Continental GT cafe racer. These new colour variants has been introduced in addition to the existing colours that are available for each motorcycle model and are open for bookings at all Royal Enfield company stores and dealerships. The prices of the new colour variants will remain unchanged and will be as per the existing models.”
The company, which currently retails 11 models across four categories in three engine displacements (346cc, 499cc and 535cc – all single-cylinder), is all set to commercially launch its all-new model named Himalayan tomorrow. While the new model will become its 12th model for the Indian domestic market, it will also add another category of motorcycle – adventure-tourer to the company’s popular portfolio. The Himalayan is also expected to be powered by an engine with a new displacement on offer. The company, however, has not released any official technical specifications and also has not confirmed any developments on the front of its powertrain.
Experts, who believe that the upcoming model would be Royal Enfield’s third attempt to create an all-new category of motorcycles within its portfolio, estimate that the Himalayan would only boost the growing sales of this company in the near future.
Exports down in January 2016
According to Royal Enfield, it exported a total of 570 motorcycles in January 2016 as against 770 units exported in January 2015. The month saw a decline in exports by 26 percent YoY. However, on the cumulative front, the company registered total exports of 8,855 units during January 2015-January 2016, thereby marking a growth of 27 percent YoY.
