Renault Triber to debut in India on June 19
With the upcoming Triber sub-4-metre compact seven-seater, Renault India is looking at strengthening its presence in the Indian passenger vehicle market.
French car major Renault created quite a stir with the Kwid entry level model, when it was launched in India in September 2015. However, in a highly competitive market, the model couldn't sustain its good run in the small car market. Now, with the upcoming Triber sub-4-metre. compact seven-seater, Renault India is looking at strengthening its presence in the Indian passenger vehicle market. The car is set to be launched on June 19.
The Renault Triber is based on the CMFA + platform, a slightly bigger version of the CMF-A (Common Module Family - A segment) platform on which the Kwid is based. Autocar Professional had first reported about the strategy on December 4, 2017. The Triber, codenamed RBC, will be a 7-seater model that will sit between the Kwid hatchback and the Duster SUV. The model promises to offer "best-in-class space" with "first-of-its-kind modularity".
Unlike Alliance partner Nissan's strategy for the Datsun Go+, which is derived from the Datsun Go hatchback, the Triber is an independent design. The Triber could be followed by another model on the same platform. But starting next month, will the tribe of Renault customers in India grow? Look out for our regular sales analysis to find out.
