At 80,000 units sales in CY2020, Renault India holds the seventh spot in Groupe Renault's global list and now with the brand-new Renault Kiger compact crossover, it eyes to rise upwards in Renault's global tally.

Excerpts of an interview with Renault India MD and CEO, Venkatram Mamillapalle.

On entering B-SUV segment
"The B-SUV segment is the most affordable SUV segment in India that holds over 50 percent market share, and we are sure that we are going to take on the market with the Kiger," Mamillapalle added.

The company aims to introduce the car in Q1 of CY2021
"We are considering our mid-term plan with the Kiger. This is one of the products that will intensify our game in India. With three new products (Kwid, Triber, Kiger) in hand, we should be able to consistently hold 3.5 percent market share of the PV segment in India,' he said.

He further added, "While that is the target, we would want to go beyond that but let's see how the current market situation improves."

On market condition
Talking about the present market scenario, Mamillapalle remarked, "Market sentiments from at least last six months are positive. But can't say what may happen in future."

"All three products are the lead ones for our growth strategy in India and the Kiger is a global product and wherever there's a RHD market, we will export it to all such overseas markets from India," he concluded.
