The Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) has announced the appointment of Ramesh Suri, chairman, Global Autotech, as its president for the term 2014-15. The announcement was made at the 54th Annual Session of ACMA during its Executive Committee meeting today.
Announcing the new president, ACMA director general, Vinnie Mehta, said, “We are delighted that Ramesh Suri, a respected leader from our industry, has been appointed as the new president of ACMA. Being in the automotive industry for over four decades, Ramesh Suri brings to the table a wealth of relevant knowledge and experience which will help drive the association’s agenda in the right direction”.
On accepting the new charge of responsibility, Ramesh Suri said, “It is an honour and privilege to be appointed as president of ACMA, which is the apex body representing the interest of the Indian auto component Industry. Serving as the vice-president of ACMA for the past year has given me an opportunity to work closely with its members, understand the issues, challenges and roadblocks that the auto components industry has been facing. However, there are small but positive signs of revival in the industry of late as compared to the earlier part of the year.
Interventions by the government like reduction and extension in excise duty on automobiles in the Interim Budget 2014-15 has definitely contributed in elevating the sentiments in the industry. In addition to this, the recent statement by our prime minister to develop the country into a manufacturing hub for exports brings to the industry much positive energy and hope. This move will definitely aid in solving issues like unemployment, slow economic growth and a high trade deficit. We wish the new government to adopt measures, which will boost the overall growth of the automotive industry. Considering the 16 percent growth in exports in the last fiscal year, we believe this year will bring in fresh editions of success stories.”
