As a global automotive megatrend, the electric mobility industry is currently witnessing one of its most active phases. Not a day passes by without news breaking about EV-related innovations, products aimed at enhancing EV range and start-ups aiming to disrupt the existing albeit nascent dynamics of the electric vehicle industry.
One of the latest entrants in the domestic EV segment is Pune-based e-mobility start-up Polarity, which launched six electric two-wheelers – S1K, S2K, S3K, E1K, E2K and E3K – where the ‘S’ stands for Sports and ‘E’ denotes Executive, with prices starting at Rs 38,000 and going up to Rs 110,000. The pre-bookings have begun on the company’s website for a refundable deposit of Rs 1,001, with deliveries set to begin in the first quarter of 2020.
The company says it has filed over 20 international patents for its Personal Mobility Vehicle (PMV) range. Responding to Autocar Professional's query on the company's future plans, Sachin Jadhav, CMD, Polarity, said: "We have more exciting products in the pipeline. We plan to launch an electric car in a year. It will look like a sports car but its performance will be tuned to that of a economy car."
Polarity opened bookings for its electric two-wheeler range today, following which it will gauge market demand and decide on the product positioning. Deliveries are expected to start from Auto Expo 2020. Interestingly, the electric two-wheelers seem to be well-suited from e-commerce and food delivery companies.
The company says it has also seen much interest from European markets. According to Jadhav, "The focus right now is towards personal buyers, maybe in the future we will look at the export and B2B segment."
Jadhav, who has studied at Coventry University, UK has earlier worked with luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover. During his stint at Coventry University, he, along with some colleagues, thought about developing a PMV.
Polarity has said that the battery cells, motor and controller will be imported, the rest will be locally sourced. The company is targeting sales of 15,000 PMVs a year.
