Prices of BS6 Aprilia and Vespa scooters revealed
Aprilia and Vespa have hiked the prices of its scooters by up to Rs 20,000. The Aprilia SR 150 Race now costs Rs 1.31 lakh, while the Vespa Elegante VXL 150 is priced at Rs 1.52 lakh on road, Delhi.
While other two-wheeler manufacturers are revealing its BS6-compliant models one by one, Piaggio appears to have readied all of its models to meet the upcoming new emission norms. A price list we received from a dealer has the cost-wise break-up of every BS6-ready Aprilia and Vespa scooter in India.
The rise in prices on these scooters is the most significant we have seen so far, and the higher-spec models have witnessed a price hike of nearly Rs 20,000. The huge increase in prices has also taken the on-road cost of every model in the range above the Rs 1 lakh mark, including that of affordable models like the Aprilia Storm 125 and Vespa Notte and Urban Club. More expensive models like the SR 150 Race and Vespa Elegante VXL 150 now cost Rs 1.31 lakh and 1.52 lakh. (All prices on-road, Delhi)
Dealers have said that Piaggio has already begun dispatches of the BS6 Vespa SXL 150, with other models to follow soon. Deliveries for the BS6 models are set to begin in January 2020. Other details (like the detailed specifications) are yet to be revealed by the company. It also remains to be seen if Piaggio will offer additional features and equipment on the scooter to offset the additional cost. We have seen Honda and TVS do this with the BS6-compliant Activa 125 and Apache RTR 200 4V so far.
