Piaggio Vehicles India, a 100 percent subsidiary of Piaggio Group that owns Vespa, Moto Guzzi and other premium brands, has launched two premium motorcycles under its Aprilia brand in a move to consolidate its superbike portfolio.

The company currently sells the RSV4 and Tuono models under its Aprilia brand, and California, Audace, V9 Bobber, V9 Roamer and other models under its Moto Guzzi umbrella.

The two all-new Aprilia models – Shiver 900 and DorsoDuro 900 – are powered by the four-stroke, liquid-cooled, V-twin, 95bhp, 900cc engine. Imported as completely built units (CBUs), the Aprilia Shiver 900 and DorsoDuro 900 are launched with an introductory price tag of Rs 11.99 lakh and Rs 12.50 lakh respectively, both ex-showroom, Pune.

According to the company, the models, which were open for bookings from 1 May at company-owned Motoplex stores, with introductory prices will be available on a limited stock until June 30.

The new Aprilia superbikes will retail from Piaggio Group’s Motoplex stores in Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Bangalore and Hyderabad.

Commenting on the launch of the two tech-laden Aprilia superbikes in India, Stefano Pelle, CEO and managing director, Piaggio Vehicles (India) said, “It is our constant effort at the Piaggio Group to make the Aprilia brand more accessible to the patrons in the country. With these superbikes – the Shiver and DorsoDuro – we plan to appeal to the Aprilia enthusiast. These superbikes reflect the racing heritage of the brand and the riding experience is unmatched by any other product in the similar category.”

While the naked-street model Aprilia Shiver 900 competes with Ducati Monster 821 and Kawasaki Z900, the Aprilia DorsoDuro 900 rivals Ducati’s Hypermotard 939 family in India.
