Nissan Motor India inaugurated a Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) on the outskirts of Chennai. The facility, built over a 45,000 square metre area is the company’s largest, and will be the first of several outlets that the company plans to build.
It was built in 11 months and will employ 300 persons. This facility will have daily outbound volume of 2800 lines per day and a despatch rate of 90 percent thus enabling despatch of parts to various parts of India on the same day.
Kenichiro Yomura, President, Nissan India Operations, said, “Efficient supply of spare parts across our existing service network is imperative to complement our plan to increase our sales touchpoints.”
Nissan ended its distributor agreement with Hover Automotive India in February. The company now handles sales and the aftermarket on its own and the inauguration of the PDC aims at servicing its expanding dealer and service network.
The company’s larger plan, according to Yomura is to have a hub-and-spoke parts distribution model. The Chennai centre will be the distribution hub. The PDC will be directly managed by Nissan along with Indospace, Yusen Logistics and Nippon Express.
Nissan launched the Datsun Go last month. So far, just over 4,000 units have been sold in about five weeks since launch.
