The new Honda Amaze, launched on May 16, 2018, has gone past the 50,000 unit sales mark in the Indian market. This makes it the fastest Honda model to get to the 50,000 sales milestone in India. Not surprisingly, the sedan has been contributing to 50 percent of Honda Cars India’s total cumulative sales of 94,419 units (+3.45%) in the April-September 2018 period. The car has been in the Top 10 bestselling cars/vehicles list right from June 2018 through to September 2018.
And, to add another statistic, as per Autocar Professional’s analysis, total sales of the Amaze since the sedan was first launched in March 2013 have crossed the 300,000 units mark (see sales table below). At end-September 2018, total sales of the Amaze add up to 303,796 units – 165,339 petrol and 138,457 diesel.
The Amaze, in its latest avatar, offers quite a value-packed proposition, with its spacious cabin, standard safety kit, contemporary features, and the unique diesel CVT option. According to Honda, the new Amaze has attracted more than 20 percent first-time buyers, indicating an increasing aspirational trend among the first-time buyers to opt for premium sedans. The car has been well received across markets with 40 percent sales from Tier 1 cities and 30 percent each from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
Speaking on the growing demand for the new Amaze, Makoto Hyoda, director, Sales and Marketing, Honda Cars India, said, “The overall concept of the all-new Amaze was to develop a one-class-above sedan for Indian family use that exceeds the expectations of customers in the compact sedan segment. The response to the car with 50,000 sales in five months is overwhelming. The advanced CVT technology has found very strong acceptance among customers with 30 percent of Amaze customers opting for automatic variants in petrol and diesel.”
