Mercedes-Benz India launches AMG GLS 63, G 63 Edition 463 SUVs

Mercedes-AMG has added two new performance models to its product portfolio in India with the launch of the GLS 63 and G 63 'Edition 463' SUVs.

GLS 63 is a full-blown AMG performance version of Benz's flagship GLS SUV and is priced Rs 1.58 crore onwards. Powering it is AMG's handcrafted, 5.5-litre, V8 bi-turbo engine that develops 585hp and 760Nm of torque and has a claimed 0 to 100 kph time of 4.6 seconds. Equipped with an AMG Speedshift-plus 7G-tronic transmission, it sends power to all four wheels via a 4matic all-wheel-drive system that has a rear-biased torque split for better agility. The GLS 63 also gets an AMG 'ride control' sports suspension with 'Active Curve System' roll stabilisation which Mercedes says can offer both sporty handling as well as comfort. In features, it gets a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system, heated seats with massage function for the front two occupants, second row electrically foldable seats and AMG bodystyling, chrome fins, and red-painted brake calipers.

The G 63 Edition 463 is based on the company's G-class SUV and priced at Rs 2.17 crore. The Edition 463 badging relates to W463 which is the model code for the current G-class' platform that has been around since the nineties. Powering the SUV is the same 5.5-litre, V8 bi-turbo engine developing a slightly lower output of 572hp, but an identical torque value of 760Nm. Mated to an AMG Speedshift-plus 7G-tronic automatic gearbox, it does 0-100 kph in a claimed 5.4 sec and an electronically limited top speed of 210 kph. The G63 is built on a body-on-frame platform and is equipped with off-roading tech like all-wheel-drive, three fully locking differentials, an off-road reduction gear and an electronic traction system (4ETS). Other highlights include 21-inch, five-spoke alloy wheels, leather interiors, AMG carbon-fibre trim, AMG sport strips on flanks and a stainless-steel under-ride guard. This could very well be the last version of the current G-class to be launched in India as Mercedes is expected to launch an all-new G-class at the Frankfurt motor show later this year.

Both the SUVs have been launched under the Mercedes-Benz 'designo' personalisation platform where customers can opt to customise their vehicles.
