The Maruti Vitara Brezza has notched its latest milestone. Launched in March 2016, the Vitara Brezza has crossed the 300,000 unit sales mark in the domestic market within just 28 months, clearly indicating the sustained demand for this popular Maruti.
Where the Vitara Brezza clocked 5,563 units in its maiden month of introduction alone (March 2016), the crossover has been performing consistently well and has even ruled the Top 5 UVs list for the last two years, deservingly clinching the top spot.
In FY2017, its first full year of sales, the Brezza’s cumulative tally stood at 108,640 units, thus averaging a robust 9,053 units every month. The crossover immediately gave a boost to Maruti’s UV market share, which catapulted to a considerable 25.69 percent at the end of the fiscal, which until end-FY2016 was pegged at 16.10 percent.
Subsequently, the SUV’s sales accelerated to clock a substantial 148,462 units during FY2018, further augmenting its market share to 27.53 percent. Being in the market for over two years, Maruti Suzuki finally brought in some refresh to the crossover, and introduced its updated avatar in May this year, bringing in a host of cosmetic, mechanical and safety-related tweaks to the Brezza.
While the 2018 Vitara Brezza now sees dual airbags, ABS and EBD coming in as standard across its variants, Maruti Suzuki has also brought in the option of AMT in its mid- and top-spec trims, bringing in more convenience for customers.
In the ongoing fiscal, the crossover has already sold 26,447 units between April and May 2018 to register cumulative sales numbers of 289,112 units since launch; add June 2018 numbers and the Brezza zooms past the 300,000 milestone.
Nonetheless, even though the crossover has been running strong and still commands a waiting period of up to four weeks in some cities, new competition from the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Tata Nexon has kept Maruti on its toes. The consistent rival though is the Hyundai Creta, the longstanding No. 2 SUV in India since the Brezza breezed into the market.
