Barely four months into its launch, the all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift, which is the third generation model of the popular global hatchback from the stable of the Japanese carmaker in India, has gone on to climb the ladder to drive past the 100,000 sales milestone in the country. This in only 145 days, which translates into sale of 689 Swifts each day!
The car, which is hugely popular with buyers in the sub-compact hatchback space, has smashed the competition flat, giving new wings to the country’s leading carmaker, with its assembly lines running full steam to cater to the market demand.
While it clocked sales of 17,291 units in the initial month of launch in February itself, Swift sales soared to 19,207 units in March, rising further to 22,776 units in April, making it the best-selling passenger car in the country in the month.
Not surprisingly then, the car has been responsible in giving a boost to Maruti Suzuki’s passenger car market share, which stood at 61.53 percent for FY2019 until the end of May, up from the 57.20 percent during the same April-May period last year. The company collectively sold a total of 77,263 units of its compact cars, of which the Swift and the Dzire twin siblings contributed in the maximum. Maruti’s overall PV market share also grew to 54.18 percent during April-May 2018, with cumulative sales of 324,931 units, from being pegged at 51.81 percent and 274,329 units during the same period last year.

While the latest generation of the Swift is as contemporary as it could ever get, offering a host of desirable feature and design traits including a touch-screen infotainment system, and a pillar-mounted rear door handle, the car also has been strengthened as an overall package with the offing of dual airbags and ABS as standard safety kit on-board, along with the options of automated manual transmissions in both the petrol as well as diesel variants.
Not only in India, the Swift holds the value of being a lucky charm for the Japanese carmaker, with the car clocking 6 million sales globally for the automotive giant, as well as being the 20 millionth car to be produced out of Maruti Suzuki India’s factory, 34 years since it started operations in the country back in 1983. Since its launch in India in 2005, the Swift has gone home to 1.85 million buyers in the country, paving a legacy and many a story of its own to tell.
