Maruti Suzuki India has notched a new milestone – it has become the first car manufacturer in India to roll out its 15 millionth car. The models that significantly contributed to big number include the Maruti 800, Alto, Wagon R, Omni, Swift and the Dzire.
The 15 millionth car – a Swift Dzire VDi – rolled out from the company’s Manesar plant. The first car, a Maruti 800, had rolled out from the Gurgaon facility in December 1983. The company has achieved this milestone in 31 years and 5 months. The last 5 million cars have taken just 50 months.
Commenting on the landmark, Rajiv Gandhi, executive director, production, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “Maruti Suzuki’s journey has been one of kaizen and continuous improvement. Our people on the shopfloor make enormous contribution so that we can offer more and better to our customers, and fulfil their needs and aspirations.”
Maruti Suzuki’s medium term goal is to clock sales of 2 million vehicles per annum by 2020. It is expanding its product portfolio, foraying into new segments, strengthening the sales and service network and enhancing capabilities across the value chain.
