In a bid to enhance employability of youth in the country, Maruti Suzuki India has undertaken various skill development initiatives under its CSR program. Today, the company inaugurated a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the Government Polytechnic, Manesar in Haryana.
Set up in collaboration with the government of Haryana, the CoE will be used to train and improve the level of technical education of polytechnic students in the state and contribute to the Skill India initiative. The state-of-the-art CoE is equipped with latest equipment and training tools. Facilities like Maruti Suzuki Basic training Lab, Safety Lab, and Finishing Schools for Weld/Paint/Assembly, Simulation workshop, Robotics Lab, AutoCAD (CAD/CAM/CAE) Lab, Electropneumatics Lab and Smart class rooms will be used to impart practical training.
The facility is expected to benefit over 5,000 polytechnic students annually. It will serve as a training centre for students from Government Polytechnic, Manesar as well as students from other polytechnics across the state and shopfloor employees from the automobile and auto component industry.
While the land and building for the CoE has been provided by the state government, Maruti Suzuki has set up workshops and labs with the latest equipment and training tools. The carmaker, which has borne the initial cost of the setup and will maintain and run the CoE, will also depute experienced trainers and industry experts to train and share technical knowhow with the students.
The CoE and Incubation Centre was inaugurated by Kenichi Ayukawa, MD and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India, along with Krishan Kumar Kataria, director - Technical Education, Haryana and Tilak Raj Narula, principal, Government Polytechnic, Manesar.
Kenichi Ayukawa said: “Skill development is an important focus area under Corporate Social Responsibility. We have been working with over 110 ITIs across the country. Our focus is to impart right technical skills with strong emphasis on inculcating the right values and attitude. These will help them find a job and build a career while contributing to the Make in India initiative.”
He added, “The Centre of Excellence at Government Polytechnic, Manesar will train the youth across polytechnics in Haryana and will bridge the gap between polytechnic education and skills required by the Industry.”
