Maruti Suzuki India today launched the new Wagon R S (Smart)-CNG. The eco-friendly hatchback will be available in the Lxi variant with a 1.0-litre engine offering what the company claims is best-in-class mileage of 33.54km/kg.
The new Wagon R S-CNG, priced at Rs 484,000 for the Lxi variant and Rs 489,000 for the Lxi (O) variants (ex-showroom Delhi), comes with factory fitted CNG kit, with standard warranty benefits and convenience of Maruti Suzuki’s all-India service network.
Commenting on the introduction of the Wagon R CNG model, R S Kalsi, senior executive director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India said, “At Maruti Suzuki, we continuously strive to offer products that are technologically advanced and environment friendly. With the Wagon R S-CNG, customers will be able to enjoy the benefit of 26 percent better fuel economy than the outgoing Wagon R CNG and superior technology which is safe, reliable and environment friendly.
According to the carmaker, the new Wagon R comes with S-CNG technology that ensures high performance with dual ECU and intelligent-Gas Port Injection technology which delivers a calibrated quantity of fuel to the engine, leading to more efficient fuel usage, active pickup and superior driveability. Also, the packaging of the CNG cylinder enables better spare tyre accessibility.
Growing demand for CNG models
Maruti Suzuki says its CNG vehicle sales contribute to around 15 percent of its total sales. At present, the company offers a CNG option in seven of its models – Alto 800, Alto K10, Wagon R, Celerio, Eeco, Super Carry and Tour S. Cumulatively, over 500,000 customers have chosen to buy Maruti Suzuki factory-fitted CNG vehicles.
The new Wagon R S-CNG will be available in states with CNG infrastructure including Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Mumbai, Pune, parts of Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
