Maruti Suzuki begins production at new Kharkhoda plant
Phase 1 of the Kharkhoda plant will have an annual production capacity of 250,000 units and produce the Brezza compact SUV among other models. With this, Maruti Suzuki, including Suzuki Motor Gujarat, will have a total annual production capability of 2.6 million units.
Maruti Suzuki India has today begun commercial production operations at its new Kharkhoda facility in Haryana. The foundation stone, for this facility, was laid by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in August 2022, virtually.
The Kharkhoda plant adds manufacturing muscle to Maruti Suzuki's three existing manufacturing facilities: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). Together, these facilities have a combined annual production capability of 2.35 million units. In anticipation of growing demand for automobiles in India and worldwide, the car and SUV manufacturer plans to expand its annual production capacity to 4 million units.
To begin with, Phase 1 of the Kharkhoda plant will have an annual production capacity of 250,000 units and produce the Brezza compact SUV, among other models. With this, Maruti Suzuki, including Suzuki Motor Gujarat, the wholly owned subsidiary of Maruti Suzuki, will have a total annual production capability of 2.6 million units.
Once fully operational, the Kharkhoda facility will have a planned capacity of one million units per year. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is planning another greenfield facility with an annual capacity of one million units and is in the process of identifying a suitable location for this new facility.
CY2024 was a standout year for Maruti Suzuki India on the production front, having surpassed the production milestone of 2 million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time in its history as well as becoming the sole OEM in India to achieve this significant milestone in passenger vehicle production. Maruti Suzuki also became the first among Suzuki Motor Corporation’s global automobile manufacturing facilities to achieve this landmark. An Ertiga MPV was the milestone 2-millionth vehicle to be rolled out from the production line at the company's state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Manesar, Haryana. Of the 2 million vehicles, almost 60% were manufactured in Haryana and 40% in Gujarat. The Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, Wagon R and Brezza were the top five manufactured vehicles during the CY2024.
