Maruti sales rise 5.8 percent in July, Dzire sales up 33 percent
August 1, 2013: Maruti Suzuki’s results for July 2013 are out. The carmaker sold 75,145 units in the local market, up 5.8 percent over the 71,024 units sold in July 2012.

The company’s small car segment comprising the Alto, A-star, M800 and WagonR sold 33,587 units, an increase of 15 percent over the year-earlier month. The Swift, Estilo and Ritz sold 13,882 units, down 11.9 percent from 15,759 units sold in July 2012. The Dzire sold 15,249 units last month, up 33 percent over the 11,413 units sold in July 2012.
Among UVs, the Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga sold 4,562 units cumulatively, down 37 percent over 7,294 units in July 2012. Sales of the Omni and Eeco rose 9 percent to 7,543 units from 6,879 units in the year-earlier month.
Maruti’s sales performance in July is its first positive numbers tally since the beginning of 2013-14. While sales were flat in April, the fall in May was 13 percent and in June, 7.8 percent.
In June this year, Maruti shut two of its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar for a day to adjust to low demand conditions, which was followed by a 6-day scheduled maintenance closure.
On the export front, July numbers were down 27 percent with 8,154 units sold as against 11,210 units sold in June 2012.
