Mahindra & Mahindra has launched the new, facelifted XUV500 with prices starting from Rs 12.32 lakh for the diesel variant and Rs 15.43 lakh for the petrol variant (all prices, ex-showroom, Delhi).
The company’s flagship SUV will be available in five diesel variants – W5, W7, W9, and W11 (that also comes with an options pack) – and a petrol variant, G AT.
Apart from some aesthetic upgrades on the body panels, Mahindra has also updated its interiors. According to the company, the engine is now tweaked to produce 15hp and 30Nm more than other trims. The 2.2-litre mHawk engine (diesel variant) now produces 155hp and 360Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic transmission and an AWD system are also on offer. The ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of the diesel powertrain is 15.4kpl.
The car will also be offered with a petrol engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The petrol engine produces 140hp and 320Nm of torque. The car boasts of a host of entertainment and safety features. According to Rajan Wadhera, president, automotive sector, Mahindra & Mahindra, the company has spent around Rs 150 crore in the new facelifted version of the XUV 500.
Speaking at the launch of the new XUV500 in Mumbai, Wadhera said, "Since its launch in 2011, the XUV500 has been a trendsetter in the premium SUV segment. The XUV500 was the creator of the premium SUV segment in the Rs 12 to 18 lakh price range in India and continues to be the frontrunner in the segment when it comes to setting new trends and pushing boundaries.With the new XUV500, we have strengthened its value proposition further by creating new benchmarks in luxury and styling. It has been designed to meet the customer’s rising aspirations for more premium and luxurious offerings.”
The Mahindra XUV500 will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Tata Hexa and the Jeep Compass in the Indian market. As per sources, the company will also be introducing a Rexton-based SUV with Mahindra badging later this year, which, due to its higher pricing, will replace the XUV500 as the flagship SUV in Mahindra’s line-up.
Mahindra & Mahindra has sold around 232,000 units of XUV 500 ever since its launch in 2011.
