This UK Jain Group entity which is set to cross revenue of Rs 18 crore in the ongoing fiscal, has diversified into engine oils and coolants in the aftermarket. The company has recently launched its range of lubricants for scooters and motorcycles, to be purely sold in the aftermarket through its over 200 distributors and 12,000 retailers across the country.
While its major product lines remain automotive filters, the company is utilising its strong brand presence in the market by branding and reselling lubricants for scooters, entry-level and mid-size motorcycles.
Lumax is offering both mineral and synthetic engine oils adhering to API SJ / SN and JASO MA 2 quality standards, and also its coolant concentrates for two-wheeler application.
“Any fresh investments into the powertrain arena would mean taking a big risk in such times of transformation, hence, we are only trading these products,” says Ashok Shukla, business head, Automotive Care Products.
Lumax sources its lubricants from its vendor in Mumbai, where it also gets the products bottled. “The two-wheeler maintenance segment forms a huge chunk of the Indian aftermarket and hence, we would only be relying on organic growth over the next six months before going ahead and striking any marketing strategies for this new product line,” Shukla adds.
The company is relying on its distributors and on-ground mechanics to be the growth drivers by making the products available only at select retailers and by also offering benefits to mechanics with gift vouchers.
Lumax Genuine Spares, which was spawned off from the Lumax Industries Group which specialises in automotive lighting and electronics components, today takes care of the filtration business with air cleaners, oil and fuel filters being its key products on offer for both two-wheeler, as well as the passenger vehicle segments.
The company has its two manufacturing plants located in Greater Noida and Tronica City, in Uttar Pradesh. Its aftermarket revenue had recorded revenues of Rs 10 crore in FY2017-18.
