Bangalore-based electric fleet service provider, Lithium Urban Technologies (Lithium) which has over 850 EVs in operations across the country, has now added an electric bus to its service.
On June 26, 2019, Lithium showcased its electric car and bus at the Urban Mobility Workshop organised by the Delhi government in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Institute at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event was inaugurated by Delhi Transport Minister, Kailash Gahlot who said “Electric vehicles are called the future, but we are making it happen in the present. Innovations are happening every day. In order to make life better for the common man we need to ensure that the cost of such vehicles becomes less than petrol and diesel vehicles."
Lithium says it supports the movement for sustainable mobility, and since 2014, it has built a fleet of over 850 cars with an all-India presence. The company has now expanded its offering by inducting its first electric bus.
Commenting on the same, Ashwin Mahesh, co-founder, Lithium said: "At Lithium, we regularly ask ourselves, how much of the future of transportation can we introduce today? The electric bus offering is part of the answer to that question. We learned from our earlier work with passenger cars that integrated strength in operations, informatics and engineering is the key to accelerating the arrival of the future. We will repeat that with buses too - and change the canvas of mobility, energy and data for bus travel as well. In Delhi NCR alone, we have abated 4,000 MT of CO2e equivalent to the impact of about 48 additional Lodhi Gardens.”
Clay Stranger, director India Program, Rocky Mountain Institute, highlighted the need for mobility solutions that are clean, shared and citizen centric. He said: “The mobility ecosystem in India is undergoing a rapid transformation and innovative solutions that move people efficiently are being deployed across the country. Lithium has been a leader of this transformation, and the inclusion of electric buses in their offering is an exciting development.”
The company says it has embarked on an all-India roadshow showcasing its electric fleet across the country. The initiative which was started from Hyderabad, has covered Pune and Mumbai and is currently in Delhi NCR.
