Jaguar has launched the 2.0-litre diesel XE in India, starting at Rs 38.25 lakh for the base Pure variant. Prices for the mid-level Prestige and range-topping Portfolio trims haven't been revealed yet.

With the launch of this four-cylinder diesel model, Jaguar India has finally plugged a gaping hole in the sedan's India line-up. Until now, the Jaguar XE, which was launched at the 2016 Auto Expo, was the only model in the line-up without the option of a diesel.

Powering the XE is JLR's 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel, which develops 180hp and 430Nm of torque, as on the XF sedan and the F-Pace SUV. Compared to its German competition, the XE develops 10hp more than the entry-level Mercedes C 220d, and 10hp lesser than the BMW 320d and the Audi A4 35 TDI. As with its petrol sibling, the diesel engine will be paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

As per the company brochure, there are no differences in the equipment list between the petrol and diesel models. The XE is locally assembled at the Jaguar Land Rover India plant in Pune.
