Five ministries have joined hands with the Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC), an initiative of students and alumni of IIT Delhi, to launch another life-saving initiative -- 'iSAFE - The Safer India Challenge'.
The new safety campaign will involve over 5,000 schools and colleges across the country to disseminate information and educate people with the overall goal of making Indian roads safer. iSAFE marks the beginning of a 9-month championship for schools and colleges across the country with an aim to ignite the competitive spirit of the youth in India to achieve pathbreaking changes in the field of road safety.
The launch of iSafe 2019 took place at IIT Delhi and witnessed participation of over 1,000 students from 12 states. Dignitaries like Anil Srivastava, MD, Niti Aayog; Anju Bhalla, Joint Secretary, Department of Science and Technology; Dr. Tanu Jain, ADG, Directorate General of Health Services; Vikram Tanwar, Assistant Director, National Crime Records Bureau; Paresh Goyal. Director of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways; Dr. Sushma Sagar, Professor at AIIMS' Ramashankar Pandey, Managing Director of Hella India Lighting; and Prof. Samrat Mukhopadhyay, Coordinator of NSS IIT Delhi, attended the launch on September 7.
What is the iSAFE contest?
iSAFE essentially is a 9-month-long championship in which college students are required to form a team and work on 5 domain-specific activities related to road safety (detailed below). Though the working tenure of the championship is 6 months, Indian Road Safety Campaign (IRSC) will be providing a coordinator who will help and guide the team on how to go about the contest and offer clarity on several issues.
There are 5 domains to choose from. Points will be solely given on the basis of reports submitted after every activity is conducted and completed. Based on the scores, the national rank will be evaluated. There can be multiple teams from one college but a team member can only be there in one team.
The iSAFE competition allows the college to choose the domain in which they have expertise calls for activities that require the specific skill they possess. The overall goal is to make an impact in the field of road safety across technology, law, health awareness and mass media.
Technical Domain: This is for students who are pursuing their graduation or post-graduation in either an engineering college or B.Sc/M.Sc college(Physics, Information Technology).
Medical Domain: This domain is for students who are pursuing their graduation or post-graduation in either a Medical college or B.Sc/M.Sc college(Zoology, Botany).
Law Domain: This is for students who are pursuing their graduation or post-graduation in a Law College.
Mass Communication and Media Domain: This domain is for students who are pursuing their graduation or post-graduation in mass media and communication colleges.
Awareness Domain: This domain is for students who are pursuing their graduation or post-graduation in BBA/MBA, B.Com/M.com or miscellaneous.
