Inverted Energy, India’s second-largest lithium-ion battery company, today inaugurated its new lithium battery manufacturing plant in Okhla Industrial Area, Delhi. The plant has a production capacity of 100Mwh annually.
The company is banking on new demand in the near future to expand capacity. “Various states in India are coming up with new plans related to electric vehicles. Telangana launched its EV policy exempting road tax for the first 200,000 EVs. We want to drive the change towards lithium-ion batteries which are more reliable, cost-effective, durable and made-in-India," said Rahul Raj, co-founder, Inverted Energy.
Inverted Energy was founded in 2017 by a group of IIT engineers with the ambition of making India-energy sector self-reliant. Inverted Energy comprises a team of engineers, scientists and energy researchers dedicated to disrupting the energy storage sector. With this capacity addition, it aims to create a flexible, cost-effective and optimised market space essentially to reduce dependency on China. “During the lockdown, we realised the drawback of depending on foreign markets and have worked towards building capabilities, strengthening the team, and working harder resulting in this achievement,” said Raj.
The plant will primarily manufacture lithium-ion batteries for electric two- and three-wheelers along with home storage and solar batteries used for commercial, industrial and utility services. In the next phase, customised in-house BMS is planned.
