Microelectronics major Infineon is deploying the automotive industry platform of SIAT 2019, which opened in Pune on January 16, to leverage its expertise in automotive solutions and also discuss new areas of collaboration with domestic players.
The company is showcasing its range of magnet-based wheel sensors for two-wheeler application and small engine starter kit for EFI (Stall No. 44). The company says apart from the hardware solutions, it also provides software and support. It foresees demand for magnetic sensors because of their compact size.
In June 2018, Infineon Technologies AG launched its first magnetic sensors based on TMR technology. This made the company the world’s first sensor manufacturer to offer magnetic sensors based on all four magnetic technologies: HALL, GMR, AMR and TMR. Infineon is also the first supplier in the market to achieve the highest automotive functional safety grade ASIL D for angle sensors with only one single sensor chip.
The new products are fast analogue TMR-based angle sensors dedicated to automotive applications. Their fields of use range from steering angle applications with the highest functional safety requirements to motors for wipers, pumps and actuators and electric motors in general. They are also ready to be used in industrial and consumer applications like robotics or gimbal.
Another area where the company has and sees a potential is in the area of tyre pressure monitoring system, where it has complete system-on-a-chip solution.
Speaking to Autocar Professional at the SIAT Expo, Girish Kamala, Director and Country Head for Automotive Sales, Infineon India, said: “We see an opportunity for sensors in electric two-wheelers, new emissions norms and in automotive lighting.”
According to Kamala, with LED lighting being used more and more in the automotive space, it stands out as an opportunity area for the company, as also security features that accompany in-vehicle infotainment.
Commenting on the company’s participation at SIAT 2019, he said that SIAT is a platform for the company to interact with domestic players who are looking to form new synergies in a host of areas, for instance the mechanical industry. The company claims its automotive customer base in India has grown by 15 percent in CY2018.
